Young Rider Paddy Hanlon Joins Nicky Henderson's Seven Barrows

Paddy Hanlon, an 18-year-old rider, is set to join British National Hunt horse racing trainer Nicky Henderson's prestigious Seven Barrows yard next month. This exciting news was confirmed last weekend when the Hanlons visited Seven Barrows, a move that Shark Hanlon, Paddy's father, described as a "special day for the family."

Nicky Henderson, a hall of fame trainer and one of the best in the sport for a long time, expressed his delight about Paddy joining his team. Paddy himself shared his enthusiasm, telling Racing TV's Luck On Sunday program that he is looking forward to the opportunity to learn and grow in Seven Barrows.

Paddy Hanlon's racing career has already shown promising signs. At just 16, he partnered his first winner under rules in a Worcester bumper on Chef D'Etat in June 2023. His recent success includes riding out his 7lb claim when successful on Pahlavi at Downpatrick last month. One of his most notable achievements was leading up Hewick to win the 2023 King George.

Shark Hanlon was equally impressed with the gallops and yard at Seven Barrows. The quiet atmosphere, which he loves, is conducive to focused training and racing. The conversation with Nicky Henderson was described as great by Shark, further indicating the positive relationship between the two parties.

The move to Seven Barrows came about after a conversation with Jessica Harrington at Leopardstown alerted the Hanlons that Henderson was looking for a conditional. This opportunity provides Paddy Hanlon with a great chance to learn from one of the best trainers in the sport.

Meanwhile, Shark Hanlon's horse, Sharing Is Caring, is among the entries for the ThoroughBid August Sale. Additionally, Shark is set to run two horses in an international meeting at a new track in Wales.

As Paddy Hanlon prepares to join Nicky Henderson's team, the racing world eagerly awaits to see how this young talent will flourish under the guidance of one of the sport's most successful trainers.
