Magdeburg Tram Services Resume After Four-Month Pause
Magdeburg, Germany - Tram services in the city will resume on September 11, 2025, following a four-month disruption. The resumption of service is good news for many passengers who can expect up to 20 minutes shorter travel times per route, according to the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB).
The city affected by the resumption of tram operations is Magdeburg. Trams will again run over the Damaschkeplatz, providing a direct connection to the city center and the main station.
The overhead line installation below the provisional ring bridge at Damaschkeplatz is currently being set up.
With the resumption of service, timetables and departure times for all lines will change. MVB recommends passengers to check current departure times and line routes before starting their journey.
Here's a summary of the routes and changes:
- Line 1: The route will run via Westring, ZOB, Hbf/Kölner Platz, Alter Markt, and Line 2 will remain unchanged. Line 3 will run via Olvenstedter Platz, ZOB, Hbf/Willy-Brandt-Platz, Hasselbachplatz.
- Line 4: The route is from Klinikum Olvenstedt to Cracau, with stops at Olvenstedter Platz, ZOB, Hbf/Kölner Platz, and Allee-Center.
- Line 5: The route is from Klinikum Olvenstedt to Messegelände, with stops at Europaring, Südring, S-Bhf. Buckau, Hasselbachplatz, Alter Markt.
- Line 6: The route is from Diesdorf to Herrenkrug, with stops at Westring, ZOB, Hbf/Kölner Platz, Allee-Center, and Arenen.
- Line 8: The route from Neustaedter See to Westerhüsen remains unchanged.
- Line 10: The route from Sudenburg to Barleber See remains unchanged, with stops at Südring, Wiener Straße, Hasselbachplatz, and Alter Markt. However, Line 10 must still be detoured via Wiener Straße and Leipziger Straße due to the closure of the ring bridge in the Halberstädter Straße.
MVB is running a special action where passengers using bus and train with the FAIRTIQ app pay a maximum of 3 euros per day, instead of the regular 7.40 euros.
