Transformative Approach to Space Optimization in a Compact Apartment: Embrace Scandinavian Minimalism, Enhance with Vibrant Hues

A Unique Fusion of Parisian Chic, Scandinavian Minimalism, and Kazakh Hospitality

In the heart of Almaty, Kazakhstan, nestled at the foothills of the Tian Shan mountain range, lies a distinctive apartment designed by Fariz Mamedov of FM Interiors. This extraordinary living space, located in a quiet, elite residential complex, blends Parisian elegance, the simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design, and the warmth and generational continuity of Kazakh hospitality.

The clients, a couple whose adult children have started their own families abroad, desired a space that would help facilitate their shift into this new stage of life. The apartment, designed with them in mind as a couple, offers a layout that is somewhere between open-plan and traditional, with plenty of open, arched doorways and a sense of continuous flow throughout the distinct spaces.

The apartment was entirely without walls when the clients first viewed it, offering complete control over the layout of their new home. To create a cozy, eco-friendly, and homey atmosphere, natural materials like oak parquet from Canada, natural marble and quartz, Spanish tiles, and French fabrics were used.

The apartment's color palette was inspired by deep blue, emerald-gold, and bright red street doors in Paris. The painting "Skiers" by Spanish artist Santiago Navarro, found in the Roche Bobois salon, was purchased and placed at the entrance of the home, setting the tone for the rest of the apartment. The color palette of the painting was used to determine the rest of the colors for the design of the entire interior - red pillows, yellow lamps, lilac chairs, ochre tables, and decor.

The apartment's design incorporates a far-reaching blend of design influences and styles, including Parisian chic, Scandinavian restraint, and Kazakh hospitality, with the continuity of generations. The final fireplace design features a marble front, low, wide build, and beautiful, veined marble portal.

The apartment is situated in a complex that was built and commissioned in 2021 and is surrounded by the 73-hectare First President Park. The complex boasts a guarded territory, modern landscape design, cascading fountains, modern sculptures, children's areas, and common terraces on the roof.

Items for the apartment were sourced from around the world, as well as utilizing pieces inherited from the client's family, and were upholstered and restored into new, original designs. The design of the apartment was inspired by the clients' recent trip to Paris, as well as the French capital's architecture and design.

The bedroom features softer, powdery tones like dusty pink, creamy beige, gray-olive, while the second living room has a calming sky blue and ginger-lemon color scheme. The apartment, located near First President Park and with a view of the snow-capped mountains and cleanest golf courses, offers a unique and harmonious living space that respects local identity while embracing international design trends.
