Transforming a Coat Closet into a Vertical Storage Space
In the heart of Texas, an unnamed individual has given their coat closet a makeover, transforming it into a functional and stylish storage closet. The transformation was made possible with the help of a Cricut Joy, a versatile crafting machine, and a bit of creativity.
The process began with the author planning the number of shelves needed for the new storage closet. A pencil and a paper towel roll were used to sketch out the ideal layout. The author then turned to the Cricut Design Space App on their iPhone to create labels for the containers.
In Step 5, the user sets the material to "Smart Vinyl- permanent" and loads it into the Cricut Joy. The app prepares and cuts the vinyl label in Step 6. After cutting, the label needs to be trimmed and weeded in Step 7, a process that involves removing the unwanted vinyl from the design. The label is then transferred to a transfer sheet using a scraper tool or credit card.
For large bins, the vinyl labels are placed on pink card stock and attached to the containers with glue dots in Step 8. The author chose the font DIN 1451 for the labels and typed the labels into the font box on the app, ensuring each label was sized to fit perfectly on the container.
The author was pleased with the final result, finding the hot pink labels joyful every time they open the storage closet. The white plastic containers with textured fronts, purchased specifically for this project, complement the vibrant labels beautifully.
The author kept some items, such as the foam roller, broom, dust pan, and kids' rain boots, on the floor of the new storage closet for easy access. This coat closet-turned-wunderkammer is a testament to the power of creativity and the Cricut Joy, offering a solution for those seeking to organise their spaces effectively.
