Transport company Solent successfully completes trial of Breeze mobility service
Breeze MaaS Transport App Celebrates Successful Trial and Achievements
The Breeze Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) transport app, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), has concluded a successful trial, surpassing expectations in scale and impact. The app, designed to simplify travel journey planning, booking, and payment across the Solent region, has been a hit among residents, benefiting those in Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight.
The app, which surpassed 50,000 downloads during its operation, has been instrumental in reducing car use by 3%. Moreover, Breeze users increased their use of public transport by 2.5%, demonstrating a shift towards more sustainable travel choices.
One of the key factors contributing to the app's success is its consolidated format, offering access to all the region's travel services in one place. As a result, Breeze users were on average 76% more aware of the transport options available to them.
The achievements and innovations in MaaS will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The gala ceremony will see the announcement of winners in various categories, with the Breeze trial undoubtedly a strong contender for recognition.
Solent Transport and local authority partners are confident that the learnings and successes from the Breeze trial will support the new Mayoral Combined Authority to deliver improvements to transport services across the region. The Solent Future Transport Zone programme manager, Tim Forrester, expressed gratitude to the DfT for funding the exploration and innovation of Breeze and other projects in the Solent FTZ.
Despite the trial's conclusion, the Breeze app platform will close to users upon 31 October. However, the learnings and innovations it has brought about are set to shape the future of sustainable transport in the Solent region for years to come.
65% of Breeze users utilized the app at least once a week, demonstrating its popularity and usefulness. As the app's trial comes to an end, it leaves behind a legacy of improved transport choices, increased sustainability, and a more connected region.
