In a surprising turn of events, one of the lawyers representing Capitol rioters, Mark McCloskey, has proposed a plan for a special panel to award financial damages to the rioters.

During a public meeting on social media, McCloskey outlined his proposal for a "voluntary nonjudicial resolution committee." This panel, if established, would be responsible for assigning financial damages to the Capitol rioters based on the harms they allege they suffered at the hands of the federal government.

The proposal for this special panel resembles the arrangement of a special master awarding money to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The chairman's name of the proposed tribunal is not publicly known, but McCloskey suggested Jeanine Pirro, who runs the federal prosecutors' office in Washington, to oversee the panel.

Pirro, who is in charge of the federal prosecutors' office that filed charges against nearly 1,600 Capitol rioters, is proposed to oversee the special panel. It's worth noting that President Trump's Justice Department purged many federal agents and prosecutors who sought to hold the Capitol rioters accountable.

McCloskey stated during the online meeting that his goal as a lawyer for the Capitol rioters is to turn their losses into monetary compensation. The rioters are seeking restitution from the Trump administration for what they believe to be their unfair prosecutions.

However, McCloskey's proposal does not specify the source of the funds that would be used to compensate the Capitol rioters. The Capitol rioters' request for restitution comes after President Trump granted clemency for their crimes on his first day back in the White House.

This proposal has sparked controversy and debate, with many questioning the fairness and legality of such a panel. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether this proposed special panel will come to fruition and how it will impact the ongoing prosecutions of the Capitol rioters.
