Trump hailed as a "talented showman" by Harald Schmidt
Harald Schmidt, a 68-year-old German former late-night talk show host, has shared his thoughts on US President Donald Trump's entertainment skills, expressing a unique perspective on the controversial figure.
In comments made to the German Press Agency in Cologne, Schmidt found it challenging for satirists to poke fun at Trump, yet he considered the President a gifted entertainer. He believes that Trump's ideas come naturally to him and does not need a writer to come up with them.
Schmidt's comments were not made in a formal political context but rather in reference to Trump's appearance as a guest on David Letterman's talk show. He noted a separate chair for a European to sit on in the White House and mentioned Trump's famous statement, calling Kim Jong Un "Little Rocket Man."
Schmidt also expressed indifference towards whether Trump is good or bad, stating that he is unimpressed by German cultural commentary pieces like "This is not my America." Intriguingly, he mentioned the seating arrangement in the White House, with Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio sitting side by side on the couch.
Despite this praise for Trump's entertainment abilities, Schmidt seems critical of certain aspects of the US political landscape. He appears to be disenchanted with the cultural discourse in Germany, preferring to focus on the entertainment value of political figures like Trump.
