In the world of American politics, the past week has been marked by a flurry of unconventional moves.

On one side of the spectrum, Dustin Ebey, a Texas man, made headlines by legally changing his name to 'Literally Anybody Else'. Ebey, who describes himself as a centrist, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current political landscape, stating that he rejects the notion of voting for the lesser of two evils. Instead, he wants to provide an outlet for people who are fed up with the constant power struggle between the two parties. Ebey is currently attempting to collect the necessary 113,151 signatures to run for president as an independent candidate, with a deadline of 13 May.

On the other side, former President Donald Trump has launched a new venture, the God Bless the USA Bible, priced at $59.99. The book, which was launched this week on the Nasdaq Stock Market, contains a King James Bible, a handwritten version of Lee Greenwood's song chorus, and copies of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Trump endorsed the book's blend of theology with foundational American political documents. However, Trump's new venture comes amidst multiple legal battles. In a recent court ruling, a penalty awarded due to Trump and his companies falsifying financial statements to deceive banks and other lenders was reduced from $454 million to $175 million.

Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who initially ran as a Democrat, declared himself as an independent presidential candidate in October 2023. The specific number of votes or signatures required for independent candidates to appear on the ballot varies by state, but generally, independent candidates must collect a substantial number of valid signatures from registered voters in each state to qualify.

The United States, historically credited with being the first explicitly secular nation, continues to witness an interesting blend of religion and politics in its political landscape. While Dustin Ebey and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are challenging the status quo with their independent bids, Donald Trump's religious enterprise serves as another intriguing twist in the unfolding political narrative.
