Trump's confidant, Stephen Miller, labelled Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as someone whose reliability is questionable.

U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr advocated in June, arguing against relying on the advice of experts, particularly those associated with the field of vaccines and the widely disputed theory that they cause autism. He shared this viewpoint with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Trump's confidant, Stephen Miller, labelled Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as someone whose reliability is questionable.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been embroiled in a controversy following the resignation of Dr. Jennifer Layden, the head of the public health data department. This resignation came after the dismissal of Susan Monarez, the CDC chief, on September 22, 2021.

Dr. Layden, along with other department heads, opposed Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s controversial changes to vaccination policies. They resigned in protest following Monarez's removal. The resignations of four top CDC officials – chief medical officer Debra Houry, respiratory diseases director Dr Demetre Daskalakis, zoonotic infectious diseases director Daniel Jernigan, and public health data chief Jennifer Layden – were sparked by Monarez's sacking on Wednesday.

Dr. Daskalakis, in his resignation letter, criticized the "radical non-transparency" and "unskilled manipulation of data to achieve a political end" from the leadership of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). His concerns echo those of many, as the nation's health security is perceived to be at risk due to the focus on ideological self-interest.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the US health secretary, has been at the centre of this controversy. He previously claimed that autism is caused by vaccines, a claim that has been discredited and widely debunked. Kennedy made this claim to ex-Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson in June.

Kennedy's role within the CDC has been a point of contention. Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff, praised Kennedy's work within Donald Trump's administration, describing him as "one of the world's foremost experts on public health". However, his appointment has raised concerns, with some comparing it to letting a conspiracy theorist captain the Titanic.

Several users contrasted Miller's comments with Kennedy's remarks to Tucker Carlson earlier this year. The Lincoln Project and MeidasTouch, two political action committees, have ridiculed Miller's remarks, expressing disbelief at his comments.

Following the resignations, Jim O'Neill, currently Robert F. Kennedy Jr's deputy, has been announced as the acting head of the CDC. HHS has been approached by The Independent for comment.

As the CDC navigates this challenging period, questions about the integrity and credibility of the organisation remain. The controversy underscores the importance of evidence-based decision-making in public health policy.
