Turkey Falls Short in Thrilling 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship Final Against Italy
In a nail-biting finale, the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team lost the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship final to Italy. The match, filled with tense moments and spectacular plays, ended with a score of 3-2 in favour of Italy.
The opening set was won by Italy with a score of 25-23. Turkey responded by winning the second set with a dominating 25-13 score. Both teams capitalized on 20 opponent errors each, with Italy's captain Sylla contributing 19 points and Antropova adding 14 points, while Melissa Vargas scored a match-high 33 points for Türkiye.
Italy regained the lead in the third set, winning with a close 26-24 score. Turkey fought back and forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. However, Italy won the decisive fifth set with a score of 15-8, securing the championship.
Italy's 14 blocks in crucial moments proved decisive in the final. Türkiye, who had more attack points (68) than Italy (59) in the final, could not overcome this advantage. Paola Egonu tallied 22 points for Italy in the final.
Eda Erdem contributed 19 points, Ebrar Karakurt 12 points, and Zehra Gunes 9 points for Türkiye. Despite the loss, the silver medal won by Türkiye in the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship is a significant achievement for the team. This was Türkiye's first time reaching the final of the FIVB Women's World Championship.
The Turkish Women's Volleyball National Team that narrowly won the silver medal against Italy was coached by Daniele Santarelli. Turkey had to settle for the silver medal in the championship, but the team can take pride in their impressive performance and the historic milestone they achieved.
