Turkey's High-Tech Sector Boosts Economy and Trade

Turkey's high-tech sector is making significant strides, with impressive growth in exports and manufacturing industries, according to data from the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) and statements from Trade Minister Omer Bolat.

In the first eight months of 2025, Turkey's medium-high technology exports, covering chemicals, automotive, machinery, and electronics, totaled an impressive $55.5 billion. High-tech exports, in particular, grew by 17.4% year-over-year, reaching $16.79 billion.

The growth in high-tech production has enhanced Turkey's competitiveness in global trade. In fact, the share of high and medium-high technology products in Turkey's manufacturing exports increased to 42.5% during the same period. This significant increase contributed to Turkey posting the lowest trade deficit in nearly 4 years in August 2025.

The growth in high-tech exports is not a mere statistical anomaly. Between July and August, high-tech exports rose by 71.7% and 42.3% on an annual basis, respectively. Furthermore, high-tech production in Turkey grew by 9.6% on a quarterly basis and by 38.5% compared with the previous year between April and June.

The Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) is working closely with government bodies and international partners to strengthen Turkey's high-tech production capacity. This includes cooperation with countries like Vietnam to boost defense and technological collaboration.

Minister Bolat emphasized that coordination among all institutions is crucial to strengthen the contribution of high-tech to Turkey's growth. He also noted that increased efficiency and higher value-added production support the sustainability of Turkey's growth model. The minister's statements suggest a focus on making Turkey's high-tech sector more competitive and sustainable.

Moreover, the manufacturing industries in Turkey expanded by 7% in the second quarter of 2025, posting the strongest increase since the second quarter of 2022. This growth was aided by the high-tech sector, as manufacturing contributed 1.1 percentage points to Turkey's overall gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the same quarter.

Bolat underlined that efforts are ongoing to make the contribution of high-tech to Turkey's growth permanent and stronger. He noted that high-tech capacity contributes to sustainable growth through efficiency gains and value-added production. The minister's statements indicate a continued emphasis on high-tech production and exports as a means to support Turkey's economic growth.

In conclusion, Turkey's high-tech sector is playing a crucial role in the country's economic growth and trade. With continued focus on efficiency, value-added production, and international collaboration, the sector is poised to make even greater contributions to Turkey's economy in the future.
