President Erdogan Marks 103rd Anniversary of Victory Day in Türkiye
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan marked the 103rd anniversary of Victory Day in Türkiye, commemorating a historic milestone that signified the defeat of foreign forces in Anatolia by the end of 1922.
The Battle of Dumlupinar, fought between 26 and 30 August 1922, was a decisive victory for Turkish forces over the Greek army in western Anatolia. This significant event in the history of Türkiye's military victories paved the way for the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923.
Speaking on the occasion, Erdogan described the 1922 victory as a milestone and a guiding light for Türkiye's future. He emphasised that the duty is to carry the torch of independence lit on 30 August into a stronger future through unity and solidarity.
At Anıtkabir, Erdogan paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, his comrades-in-arms, and all martyrs. He reiterated Türkiye's resolve to safeguard its security and stability against new challenges.
The Battle of Dumlupinar is not only a significant event in Türkiye's military history but also a key event in the history of its independence. The victory, according to Erdogan, broke the chains of slavery, laid the foundations of the Republic, and became a source of hope for other oppressed peoples.
The anniversary of Victory Day is seen as a symbol of Türkiye's struggle for independence, resilience, and freedom. President Erdogan extended gratitude to veterans during the anniversary celebration and announced that a corresponding Victory Day event will take place in 2023 on the 103rd anniversary of Victory Day.
First Lady Emine Erdogan marked the occasion of Victory Day on social media, congratulating the nation and honouring martyrs and veterans. The anniversary of Victory Day is a symbol of Türkiye's resilience and freedom, a testament to its unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
Victory Day is commemorated as a national holiday in Türkiye, a day of remembrance and celebration of its rich history and independent spirit. As we reflect on this historic event, let us remember the sacrifices made and the resilience shown, and strive to carry forward the torch of independence into a brighter future.
