The much-anticipated return of Horst Schlemmer, the speedy reporter, is upon us. German actor Hape Kerkeling is set to reprise his iconic role in a new film titled "Horst Schlemmer sucht das Glück" (Horst Schlemmer seeks happiness).

Filming for the film began on June 24, 2022, in Hamburg-Neugraben and Dresden, with Sven Unterwaldt at the helm as director. The film is being described as a "Horst Schlemmer road movie" that sees Schlemmer embarking on a wild journey to find happiness.

The plot of the film suggests that Schlemmer has "had enough" due to bad moods prevailing throughout the country. He sets out on a journey that takes him to various locations, including Tegernsee, Sylt, Cologne, Dresden, and places involving money, cows, and Sado-Maso studios.

Kerkeling made this announcement at the "Düsseldorfer des Jahres" event, and it marks his return to the role after 16 years of absence from cinema. This time around, Schlemmer sports modern round glasses and a dark jacket, a departure from his previous messy gray hair, boxy metal frame, and gray trench coat. Interestingly, Schlemmer is also seen without his signature mustache in the new film.

Joining Kerkeling in the film are Meltem Kaptan (45) and Tahnee (33). Helge Schneider will be resuming the role of Horst Schlemmer after a 16-year absence.

In a statement, Kerkeling expressed that "These difficult times call for clear answers, and Horst has them." He also regretted a joke he made about Horst Schlemmer on the German TV show "Wetten, dass..?."

Horst Schlemmer first appeared on screen 16 years ago, and Kerkeling has portrayed numerous characters in his career. In 2009, Kerkeling released a film featuring Horst Schlemmer titled "Horst Schlemmer - Isch kandidiere!."

Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the release of the new film, set for spring 2026. The film's plot promises an exciting adventure filled with twists and turns, making it a must-watch for Horst Schlemmer enthusiasts.
