Two additional aides of de Blasio move forward with the Mamdani political campaign
Zohran Mamdani's Campaign Expands Ahead of General Election
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral nominee, is strengthening his team ahead of the November general election. The latest additions to his campaign include Elana Leopold as a senior adviser and Louise Yeung as a policy director.
Leopold, a veteran political strategist with experience in progressive politics, has worked in the private sector, leading her own firm and being a founding partner of the political consulting firm Seneca Strategies. She will serve as a liaison to civic, business, and cultural leaders across New York City, aiming to further Mamdani's efforts to find common ground with the city's business leaders.
Louise Yeung, previously a chief climate officer in Comptroller Brad Lander's office, has joined Mamdani's campaign with a similar focus. She has extensive experience in climate and resiliency for the city, having worked under the de Blasio administration as director of resiliency for the city Department of Transportation from 2019 to 2022.
Building relationships with the city's business community is a priority for Mamdani, as many leaders and stakeholders in the business world backed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the general election due to concerns about Mamdani's progressive proposals. Mamdani has been trying to find areas of common ground with leaders in the business world after the primary election results.
Leopold and Yeung will work closely with Mamdani's chief adviser, Elle Bisgaard-Church, to help strengthen and grow the coalition to make Mamdani's vision for a fairer, more inclusive city a reality. Mamdani's progressive proposals include raising taxes for the city's wealthiest residents and boosting the minimum wage to $30 an hour.
Mamdani's campaign team, which was small during the primary, has significantly expanded ahead of the general election. The senior advisor of the campaign team is Meera Joshi, who previously held several high-ranking positions under former Mayor Bill de Blasio.
With these new additions, Mamdani's campaign is well-positioned to address the challenges facing New York City and to work towards a more equitable future for all its residents.
