Two educators tied the knot, forming a union of the academic kind.

In the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, a unique teaching duo has been making a difference in the lives of their high school students. Kasey Kuiper, an English teacher, and her husband Marcus, a PE teacher, have been commuting about 45 minutes to work each day, teaching in separate school districts.

The couple, who met in 2014, started working together at the same school in 2018 when Marcus was hired. Kuiper, who had been teaching at the school for some time, suggested that Marcus consider a role as a PE teacher, as he had a keen interest in sports, weightlifting, and climbing. Marcus accepted the position, and the students were excited and nervous to find out that their teacher and coach were a couple.

Many of the students at the school already knew Marcus, as he had helped Kuiper coach some sports teams in his free time. The students' excitement was well-founded, as the couple's collaboration in the classroom proved to be beneficial. They experience similar frustrations and successes with the kids, which makes it nice to have a partner who understands what they're going through.

The couple's colleagues were aware that they were a couple after some students found out. Despite their shared profession, they have a rule not to talk about work when they're at home. Instead, they find it helpful to bounce ideas off each other, with Marcus being stricter and Kuiper asking for advice on how to approach things more gently.

In 2019, after working together for a year, Marcus took a job at another school. Kuiper and Marcus now teach in separate districts, likely for professional or personal reasons not explicitly detailed in the available information. They continue to support each other, discussing the possibility of working together again in the future, but for now, they are focused on their current roles.

As they prepare for their first child, due in a few weeks, the couple reflects on their journey. Despite the challenges of balancing work and personal life, they are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their students and to have a partner who truly understands their day-to-day experiences.
