Emergency services and police were dispatched to the suspected crash site after a single-engine sports plane, later identified as a Cessna, crashed into a cornfield. The plane was found lying on its back in the field.

The occupants of the plane, a 69-year-old and 70-year-old couple from Gladbeck, had already freed themselves from the aircraft. The couple was seriously injured but not in life-threatening condition. They were airlifted to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The exact cause of the plane crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU). The bureau has been called in to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The crash site remains secured and off-limits to the public.

The plane took off from the Freiburg area, but the flight's destination is currently unknown. The 69-year-old pilot reported that there had been technical problems with the Cessna, forcing him to make an emergency landing in the cornfield.
