The Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Komi has issued a cold weather alert for the Udorsky and Izhemsky districts, where temperatures are expected to drop between 0 and -2°C on August 24. The Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) has made the forecast, urging residents to take precautions to protect themselves, their plants, and animals from the frost.

To keep homes warm and safe, the EMERCOM recommends using functioning industrial production household electrical appliances for room heating, following fire safety rules. However, it is crucial not to overload the electrical network, and residents should avoid connecting multiple appliances to one socket using a multi-plug adapter. Additionally, it is strictly prohibited to leave plugged-in electrical appliances unattended for extended periods, and if an electrical plug or appliance shows significant heating, it should be turned off immediately.

In the spirit of fire prevention, the EMERCOM advises the population not to place electrical appliances near combustible items and materials. It is also forbidden to use multi-plug adapters, which can pose a fire risk.

In terms of protecting garden plants and vegetable cultures from the frost, common methods include smoking (fumigation) and watering. The EMERCOM also suggests using polymer film, non-woven material (spunbond), and straw to cover plants.

For those seeking more information or assistance, the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Komi has a 24/7 hotline: 8(8212) 29-99-99. In case of an emergency, residents can dial "01" or for mobile users, "101" or "112".

The cold weather warning is a reminder for residents to stay warm, protect their plants, and prioritise safety during this unusual weather event. By following these guidelines, the community can ensure a safe and comfortable winter season.
