In the heart of Eastern Europe, a long-standing conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate. Here's a brief overview of the key events that have unfolded since 2014.

Since Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014 following a controversial referendum, conflicts have persisted over the Crimean Peninsula and the eastern part of Ukraine. Russia has been supporting separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, leading to ongoing warfare. In 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion, targeting the entire country with the aim of overthrowing the Ukrainian government and installing a pro-Russian regime.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, does not trust Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. The United States, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, has been closely monitoring the situation.

Ukraine, once a part of the Soviet Union, is a country slightly larger than Germany, spanning nearly 603,628 square kilometers. It consists of 50 federal states and the capital, Kyiv, serves as its political hub. The country shares a border with Russia, and its people speak primarily Ukrainian and Russian.

The USA, the third-largest state in the world, with a size of approximately 9.8 million square kilometers, has been a key player in the international response. After a phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the former suggested that Russia and Ukraine should negotiate to end the war. He emphasised that these negotiations should lead to a ceasefire.

Russia, a vast country that spans partly in Europe and partly in Asia, with Moscow as its capital, has been seeking parts of Ukraine since 2014, including Crimea and the east of Ukraine. The USA, one of the most powerful countries in the world, has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine throughout this conflict.

As the war continues, the international community hopes for a peaceful resolution and an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
