Celebrating Empowerment: Emirati Women's Day in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates is gearing up to celebrate Emirati Women's Day tomorrow, marking a significant milestone in the nation's commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment. This year's celebration, themed "Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years", reflects five decades of accomplishments in women's empowerment in the UAE.

Emirati women hold a prominent position in various sectors, including space, diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and government. They currently occupy 50 percent of Federal National Council seats, 26 percent of ministerial positions, and play leading roles across government, business, science, and technology.

The UAE's celebration of Emirati Women's Day underscores its commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment. This commitment is evident in landmark reforms such as equal pay legislation, which ensures fair wages for all employees regardless of gender.

The achievements of Emirati women are not limited to the past. They extend to the present and future, with more than 25,000 businesswomen in the UAE making significant contributions to the business sector. In the realm of education, 46 percent of STEM graduates in the UAE are women, a testament to their growing influence in fields traditionally dominated by men.

The General Women's Union, founded by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, plays a crucial role in promoting women's empowerment in the UAE. Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, the Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, is at the forefront of these efforts.

Emirati women's influence extends globally through initiatives that support women's empowerment and peace. These initiatives, which are globally recognized, extend the UAE's influence beyond its borders. H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, widely recognized as the pioneer of the UAE's women's movement, continues to be a driving force behind these initiatives.

Emirati Women's Day serves as a symbol of the nation's growth, with Emirati women standing as a cornerstone. The UAE National Strategy for Women Empowerment 2023-2031 further solidifies this commitment, aiming to ensure equal opportunities for women in all aspects of life. As the UAE celebrates Emirati Women's Day, it reaffirms its dedication to a shared vision for the future, focusing on equality, opportunity, and national partnership.
