UBB's Arthur Retière sustains injury, to be sidelined for a month
The eagerly anticipated Top 14 rugby season begins on September 6th, with several exciting match-ups scheduled for the first round.
In the opening match, Montpellier Hérault Rugby will face Stade Toulousain, promising a fierce contest between two formidable teams. Elsewhere, La Rochelle will take on Racing 92 in another highly anticipated match.
One of the most anticipated clashes of the first round will see Pau face Perpignan in the seventh match, while Union Bordeaux-Bègles will square off against Toulon in the third match. ASM Clermont Auvergne will meet Bordeaux-Bègles in the fifth match, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter.
However, several teams will be without key players due to injuries. Maxime Lucu, the captain of one unnamed team, is out for two months due to a ruptured tendon in his thumb. Yoram Moefana, the center of another team, might require surgery on his injured shoulder, and a decision is expected early next week. Arthur Retière, the versatile winger of yet another team, is estimated to be out for about a month due to a calf injury. Adam Coleman, Lachlan Swinton, Pablo Ubertu, Romain Buros, and Rohan Van Rensburg will also be missing from the opening match on September 6th.
On a positive note, Rohan Van Rensburg is in the process of returning, and Tongan international prop Ben Tameifuna and South African third-row Jean-Luc du Preez are currently with their national teams.
Brive will play against Agen in the sixth match of the first round, while Bayonne will take on Grenoble in the eighth match. In a later match, Stade Français will face Lyon in the ninth match of the first round, and Castres Olympique will play against Lyon in the fourth match.
As of the first Top 14 match on September 6th at 21:05 against La Rochelle, UBB has no reported player injuries, and the squad is fully fit.
The first round of the Top 14 promises to be an action-packed affair, with several intriguing match-ups and the anticipation of seeing how teams will fare without their injured players. Stay tuned for updates on the season's progress!
