Ulm Prosecutor's Office and Police jointly issue a public statement regarding the case at LangenauA7.

In an unusual incident late on the evening of August 6, 2025, a 70-year-old man was arrested for driving the wrong way on the A7 highway near Langenau.

The driver was operating a Hyundai i20 and initially entered the highway from the "St. Jakob" rest area, heading in the opposite direction. He continued to drive on the two-lane road on the left-hand overtaking lane, heading towards Langenau.

The man re-entered the A7 at the Langenau interchange, heading in the direction of Würzburg. Fortunately, the police were alerted to the situation and were able to stop the wrong-way driver before an accident occurred, just before the Ulm/Elchingen motorway junction.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Ulm has ordered the seizure of the vehicle and the driver's license. The suspect was arrested and appeared before the Ulm District Court the next day, August 7, 2025. A warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

Investigations into the background of the incident are ongoing. The public prosecutor's office (Staatsanwaltschaft) is the authority that files the indictment against the suspected driver for attempted manslaughter.
