Ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station and facilities to be established at the A303 location in Wiltshire
The A303 in Wiltshire, UK, is set to welcome a new 30-bay ultra-rapid charging hub for electric vehicles (EVs), as InstaVolt secures planning consent and a grid connection for the project. This charging hub, located 10 miles west of Stonehenge, is a representation of a growing trend toward destination-style hubs along major transport routes.
Construction for the charging hub is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with an expected opening by late spring 2026. The hub will not only cater to EV drivers on long journeys but will also provide amenities for residents in surrounding communities.
The charging hub will feature a cafe and farm shop operated by InstaVolt, ensuring drivers can enjoy a refreshment break while their vehicles charge. In addition, the hub will include on-site energy storage and solar generation, contributing to the UK's renewable energy goals.
InstaVolt has introduced new anti-cable cutting theft technology to secure the charging points, demonstrating their commitment to safety and sustainability.
The charging hub's location on the UK's main east-west route is part of a 40-year lease agreement. The project aligns with the government's efforts to address range anxiety and make EV ownership more affordable, as announced by future of roads minister Lilian Greenwood. She stated that EV charging at home can cost as low as 2p per mile, making it a cost-effective solution for many drivers.
Meanwhile, the fourth annual CiTTi Awards will celebrate achievements and innovations in sEV charging infrastructure on 25 November 2025. The CiTTi Awards is an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, with more information available at www.cittiawards.co.uk.
Interestingly, a new chargepoint is being added to the UK network every half an hour, reflecting the rapid growth of the charging infrastructure. The CiTTi Awards will undoubtedly recognise such significant contributions to the EV industry.
