Unattended Luggage Made of Hard Shell Causes Police Intervention on High-Speed Train, Resulting in Service Disruptions

On August 8, 2025, at 10:13 AM, an unattended suitcase was reported in the toilet area of an Intercity Express train traveling from Hamburg to Munich. The incident caused the train to be taken out of service and train traffic on the affected tracks to be stopped.

Emergency services, including the Federal Police, were swiftly called to the scene. The Federal Police, responsible for surveillance and security services at train stations in Germany, took charge of the situation. They cleared and closed off platforms 8/9 at Halle (Saale) Central Station.

Special forces from the Federal Police in Leipzig were requested to assist with the investigation. After a thorough examination, the suitcase was classified as harmless and opened at 11:55 AM. No clues about a possible owner could be found. The contents of the suitcase, which included items of daily use, clothing, and hygiene products, were handed over to the lost and found office of the German Railway at Halle (Saale) Central Station.

The incident caused three trains to be delayed by a total of 75 minutes due to the police intervention and necessary measures. The Federal Police is reminding everyone to keep an eye on their luggage at all times. Neglecting luggage can cause far-reaching implications for other passengers and their relatives.

Leaving luggage unattended can lead to a police intervention with potential financial consequences.
