Unattended Luggage Triggers Restrictions at Chemnitz's Main Station - Federal Police Make Another Request for Vigilance

In an incident that caused a brief disruption, two unattended backpacks were discovered at Chemnitz Central Station on two separate occasions.

On the morning of 09:05 AM on an unspecified day, the initial discovery was made by federal police officers on patrol at the station. The backpacks were found in the publicly accessible entrance area, prompting a swift response from the authorities.

The backpacks, which were found to be safe, contained only personal items. However, the owners of the backpacks remain unidentified as of now. The federal police's bomb disposal unit was called in to inspect the backpacks, ensuring the safety of everyone at the station.

The discovery led to video analysis and announcements by the station management, urging vigilance among passengers. The main entrance and the front part of the main hall of Chemnitz Central Station were closed due to the unattended backpacks, causing significant inconvenience to others.

The closure lasted until around 11:15 AM, and no incidents or accidents were reported as a result of the unattended backpacks. The owners of the backpacks were eventually identified through video analysis and cooperation with Leipzig Central Station.

The Federal Police Inspectorate strongly advises passengers to keep an eye on their luggage at all times. For further questions, contact the Federal Police Inspectorate Chemnitz at 0371 4615 108 or 105, or via email at [email protected].

It is worth noting that leaving luggage unattended can lead to costly police interventions. The owners of the suitcase will now be billed for the costs of the police intervention.
