Mayor to Discuss Illegally Camping Issue at Kastorfer Lake
The mayor of Knorrendorf, Sebastian Henke, has announced that he will be discussing the ongoing issue of illegal camping at Kastorfer Lake at the next municipal council meeting on Tuesday, September 9.
According to the mayor, if everyone followed the existing rules, there would be no problems at Kastorfer Lake. However, he is not fully aware of the "drastic situation" at the lake, as it is primarily under the jurisdiction of the governing municipal or regional body that oversees the majority of the lake and surrounding facilities.
The problem of illegally pitched tents has been a concern for several months, with car and motorhome drivers disregarding nature protection laws and camping on the beach area of the bathing spot for several days. This has been reported daily near the Federal Highway B104 in Rosenow.
Despite calls for warning and prohibition signs at Kastorfer Lake, Henke has rejected this demand, stating that the municipality is not obliged to put up such signs because camping is already prohibited. Instead, he encourages people to report illegal camping directly to the local authority if they witness it.
The nature protection law states that tents are only allowed where they are appropriately marked. The lake itself and the surrounding forests and meadows do not belong to the municipality, which only owns a small part of Kastorfer Lake, including the bathing spot, the parking lot, and the access path from Kastorf.
The mayor has stated that he wants to discuss how the municipal council members stand on the issue and how they want to proceed. He is aware of one case of illegal camping at Kastorfer Lake this year, which was quickly and uncomplicatedly resolved with all parties involved.
However, according to a reader, the local authority has not taken any action regarding this matter yet. The owners of the land are responsible for illegal camping, not the municipality. Henke has encouraged residents to take an active role in reporting any illegal activity they witness.
The mayor's discussion at the municipal council meeting on Tuesday will likely provide more insight into how the issue of illegal camping at Kastorfer Lake will be addressed moving forward.
