Uncommon Opportunity for Residents of Hong Kong to Witness Display of Tang Dynasty Artifacts

The city of Hong Kong is currently playing host to a remarkable exhibition, "Tang Vogue Beyond the Horizons," which offers a fascinating glimpse into the Tang dynasty (618-907). This exhibition, organized by the Antiquities and Monuments Office, features nearly 300 well-preserved exhibits, spanning eight sections.

These sections encompass a wide range of artifacts, from silver coins and travel documents to architectural fragments, fabrics, drinking games, paintings, calligraphy, hairpins, ceramics, and figurines. Some of these exhibits were unearthed right here in Hong Kong, while others hail from 28 museums and institutions in mainland China.

One of the standout features of this exhibition is the vibrant tricoloured glazed pottery from the Tang dynasty, showcasing the signature yellow, brown, and green hues. Each exhibit is a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of the Tang dynasty, with many pieces remarkably well-preserved in colour and texture.

Visitors to the exhibition can take a close look at all these chosen relics without the need to travel to the 28 museums and institutions in mainland China where they originated. Susanna Siu Lai-kuen, the chief heritage executive of the bureau, emphasizes the unique opportunity this exhibition presents.

"Tang Vogue Beyond the Horizons" is running at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park, Tsim Sha Tsui, and will continue until the end of the year. This exhibition marks the biggest collaboration since the collaborative agreement over archaeology and built heritage was signed in 2022 between the Development Bureau and the National Cultural Heritage Administration of mainland China.

For those interested in history, culture, or art, this exhibition is not to be missed. It offers a rare opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of the Tang dynasty, a period that played a significant role in shaping China's history and culture. So, don't miss out on this chance to step back in time and immerse yourself in the Tang dynasty's vibrant world.
