Under Dog Mets Face Astros in Upcoming Clash; Is a Wager on Them Worthwhile?
The New York Mets and the Houston Astros are set to face off in an interleague series opener, with both teams in good form.
For the Mets, first baseman Pete Alonso has broken the franchise record for home runs against the American League, surpassing Mike Piazza's previous record of 28 Interleague home runs. Alonso's impressive tally now stands at 49, making him the most prolific home run hitter in Interleague Play since 2019.
The Mets have also homered in ten straight games, a testament to their potent offensive capabilities. However, their closer, Edwin Diaz, is serving a 10-game suspension. During his absence, Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman, and Reed Garrett are potential candidates for save chances.
On the mound for the Mets is Jose Quintana, who had a strong outing in his last game, surpassing his season-high six strikeouts and registering his second consecutive victory and quality start.
The Astros, on the other hand, have a seven-game winning streak and will start with breakout star righty pitcher Ronel Blanco. Blanco boasts an impressive 8-2 record and a 2.34 ERA.
The Astros are without All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker due to a right shin contusion, but they still have a strong lineup. Notable mentions include Yanier Diaz, one of the best hitting catchers in the majors who also plays as a Designated Hitter.
Adrian Houser, who has been impressive for the Astros, had a three-inning save on Wednesday and has tossed at least two frames in all but one of his eight appearances since May 26. Houser has allowed just three earned runs across 20.2 innings since transitioning to the bullpen.
Brandon Nimmo, who was replaced by Francisco Lindor in the leadoff spot, has started to swing a hot bat for the Mets. Despite his change in position, Nimmo continues to contribute significantly to the team's offence.
The Mets have won three straight games and have a Moneyline of -102, while the Astros have a Moneyline of -120. This promises to be an exciting series, with both teams eager to secure a victory.
