Romania's unemployment rate, as reported by the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) in July, stood at 3.19%. According to the data published by the Romanian National Institute of Statistics (INS), this figure represents a slight increase of 0.03 percentage points (pp) compared to the previous month.

At the end of July, a total of 254,464 people were unemployed, with the majority residing in urban areas (66,758), while 187,706 lived in rural areas.

The unemployment rate among those with a university education was significantly lower than the rate for those with secondary education. Specifically, only 4.45% of the total number of registered unemployed people had a university education, whereas 34.17% held secondary education qualifications.

Interestingly, the unemployed with no education or primary education accounted for a combined percentage of 65.56% (31.39% + 34.17%) of the total number of unemployed people registered with ANOFM. This means that the total percentage of unemployed people with an education level below secondary education (no education, primary, and secondary) was 99.62% (31.39% + 34.17% + 64.04%).

The age group with the most unemployed people was those aged between 40 and 49 (63,579), followed closely by those over 55 years old (61,938). On the other hand, the age group with the least number of unemployed people was those between 25 and 29 (14,077).

The gender divide in unemployment showed that there were 135,228 unemployed men, while the number of unemployed women was 119,236.

In addition, it's worth noting that of the total registered unemployed people, 51,402 had benefits.

Overall, the July report highlights a slight increase in the unemployment rate, with a clear disparity in unemployment rates between those with university education and those with secondary education. The majority of the unemployed population resides in rural areas and is primarily composed of individuals with education levels below secondary education.
