United States to assert authority over Gaza, force displacement of entire population according to new proposal, as per media reports.

In a recent development, a controversial plan for the reconstruction of Gaza has been unveiled. The proposal, titled "Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust" (GREAT Trust), was developed by the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), a body that coordinates with the Israeli military and is supported by the Trump administration and Israel to carry out humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

The plan aims to transform Gaza, a region desired by Palestinians as part of a future state, into a tourism resort and high tech hub. It calls for the construction of six to eight new "AI-powered, smart cities" within Gaza.

Gaza residents who own land will receive a digital token from the trust in exchange for the right to develop their property. Recipients can use this token to start a new life somewhere else or redeem it for an apartment in one of these smart cities.

However, the proposal has been met with heavy criticism from many European and Arab states. Critics argue that the plan does not address the underlying issues in Gaza, such as the blockade and the lack of basic amenities, and instead focuses on luxury developments that will benefit a select few.

Trump himself chaired a meeting last week on postwar plans for Gaza, but the White House did not release a read-out afterward or announce any decisions. The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from AFP regarding this plan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the proposal, while the UN rights office reported that Israeli forces killed over 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid in Gaza since the GHF started operations, nearly three-quarters of them in the vicinity of GHF sites.

The plan also suggests temporary relocation of Gaza's population of two million, either voluntarily to another country or into secured zones inside the enclave during reconstruction. The enclave in Israel, destroyed during the war of 2023 due to a Hamas attack, is planned to be transformed into a trusteeship administered by the United States for at least 10 years.

It is important to note that the Post did not mention any decisions made during the meeting and the GHF was not mentioned earlier as a body distributing food in Gaza. The proposal is still in its early stages and its future remains uncertain.
