Marburg, a city steeped in history and culture, is gearing up for a series of significant events in September. From raising awareness for various causes to remembering the past, there's something for everyone.

Starting the month, Marburg will join the global community in observing World Peace Day on September 1. Originating from the November Revolution of 1918/19, this day serves as a solemn reminder of the horrors of war, with the city hall hoisting the flag in solidarity. The flagging will take place from 7 am until sunset.

The original date for World Peace Day was August 1, but it was later moved to September 1, the start of World War II, as a symbolic gesture of peace. This year's observance in Marburg will also include a nationwide participation action for World Children's Day, organised by UNICEF Germany and the German Children's Aid Organization. Children and young people are invited to submit their demands and ideas on children's rights, with the motto for this year being "Children's Rights - Building Blocks for Democracy!".

On September 20, the town hall will be flagged for World Children's Day, marking the beginning of a day dedicated to amplifying children's voices. Organisations such as UNICEF Germany, the German Children's Fund, and local youth councils are supporting this action, with the aim of rebuilding a monument for democracy in Berlin using ideas submitted by children and young people.

As the month progresses, Marburg will also celebrate World Bisexuality Day, also known as "Celebrate Bisexuality Day", on September 23. This day, initiated by three civil rights activists in the USA in 1999, aims to raise awareness that bisexuality is an independent sexual orientation alongside heterosexuality and homosexuality. The town hall will be flagged in support of this day from 7 am until sunset.

The month will conclude on September 21 with a memorial day for the victims of flight, expulsion, and deportation. All public buildings in Marburg will be flagged in memory of these victims, with the day beginning at 7 am and ending at sunset. This day was first officially observed on August 6, 1950, initiated by 100,000 expellees who gathered at a rally in Stuttgart and drew attention to their situation with the Charter of the Expelled Germans.

Stay tuned for these significant events in Marburg this September, as the city comes together to commemorate, celebrate, and advocate for a better future.
