University of Sinaloa labels Governor Rubén Rocha Moya as "unwelcome"

The Autonomous University of Sinaloa is currently embroiled in a series of controversies, with the University Council announcing that they will be filing formal criminal complaints against several local legislators and officials.

The council's decision to take legal action comes in response to alleged irregularities found in the reviews of the public accounts of the academic institution. Two legislators, Ricardo Madrid Pérez and Sergio Mario Arredondo, are among those facing accusations of impropriety.

In addition to this, the council has also agreed to file complaints against the Superior State Auditor, Emma Guadalupe Félix Rivera, for attacks against the university.

The council's actions have been met with resistance, with some claiming that it is a political persecution aimed at punishing innocent people. The University Council, however, maintains that they are not thieves or corrupt, but are being targeted due to their efforts to uphold the autonomy of the university.

One of the most high-profile figures caught up in the controversy is Rubén Rocha Moya, who served as rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa from 1993-1997. His photograph is set to be removed from the gallery of the university due to his being declared persona "Non grata" for organizing political persecution against university students.

The proposal to remove Rocha Moya's photograph was made by teacher Teohari Guzmán Galindo, advisor and member of the "Good Doing" Association.

The university is also facing a financial deficit, with the council stating that this is another example of the state government's attempts to punish them.

In a recent development, a district judge's resolution has rendered audit 012/2023 of the Superior State Audit of the university's own resources void. This resolution has been described as another momentous chapter closing in the defense of autonomy by Robespier Lizárraga Otero.

Meanwhile, the Sinaloa Governor has stated that the Mazatlan Aquarium can be rented for social events, and has not declared his candidacy for the Sinaloa governorship.

The controversies surrounding the Autonomous University of Sinaloa continue to unfold, with many awaiting the outcome of the criminal complaints filed by the University Council.
