In Braunschweig, Germany, a 26-year-old resident of the city was arrested by the local police on charges of attempted theft and assault on a police officer. The incident took place at the Braunschweig Central Station on 18.08.25, at 17:45.

According to the Braunschweig Police, the suspect was known to them and was under suspicion of being under the influence of strong narcotics. A witness chased after the man and alerted the police, who located the suspect at John F. Kennedy Square and escorted him off a public bus.

The suspect continued to resist and was restrained by officers, handcuffed, and taken to a police station. Due to suspicion of being under the influence of intoxicating substances, a blood sample was ordered for the suspect.

During the confrontation, the suspect attacked a 32-year-old police officer, causing injuries. As a result, the officer was diagnosed with a fracture of a hand bone and is currently unfit for duty.

The suspect in the theft and assault case is a known resident of Braunschweig. Regrettably, the elderly woman who was the target of the theft could not be located at the station.
