Unloading vessel prohibited from anchoring (Ship #0565)
A cargo ship flying the Italian flag, the "Grande Sierra Leone," experienced an engine failure on the Weser near Bremerhaven on Wednesday night. The ship was attempting to dock in Bremerhaven when the engine malfunctioned.
Initial investigations by the Bremen Water Police suggest a technical malfunction in the engine control room was the cause of the engine failure. The ship was safely moored in the harbor after being towed by a tugboat around 05:10 AM.
Further investigations into the cause of the engine failure are ongoing. The company or person responsible for the maintenance and repair of the "Grande Sierra Leone" has not been specifically named, but the ship underwent repairs and a technical inspection by a classification society before it was allowed to leave the port again.
The cargo ship has now completed its repair work and has been reclassified. The 212-meter long vessel is now ready to leave Bremerhaven, with its departure imminent.
It's worth noting that no personal or environmental damages occurred during the engine failure and subsequent towing. Furthermore, no one was injured during this incident.
