Unreported inferno at Augsburg Panthers sports club?
The Augsburg Ice Hockey Panthers are preparing for the new season with a renewed focus and a stronger squad than last year. After three consecutive disappointing seasons, two of which ended in sporting relegation, avoiding relegation is the top priority for the team.
Head coach Bill Peters, who has taken over from Larry Mitchell for the 2025/26 season, is confident about the team's prospects. "This will be a good year," said Peters in a recent interview.
One of the key additions to the Panthers' offense is Alexandre Grenier from Kölner Haie. His experience and skill are expected to significantly boost the team's offensive potential.
In goal, the Panthers have strengthened their ranks with the arrivals of Michael Garteig from Ingolstadt and Peyton Jones from Vienna. Thomas Schemitsch, who played the most minutes for the Panthers last season and was a key figure in avoiding relegation, has had his contract extended.
The Panthers' squad will also see the return of Cody Kunyk, Riley Damiani, Anthony Louis, and Joseph Cramarossa from Vienna Capitals. Two import players, Madison Bowey and Kyle Mayhew, are expected to bring more stability to the Panthers' defense, despite having no DEL experience.
The team has also signed four promising German newcomers: Tim Wohlgemuth, Alexander Blank, Enrico Henriquez-Morales, and Sebastian Zwickl. With only 12 players from last season set to continue in September, the newcomers are expected to play a significant role in the team's performance.
The effectiveness of the new team on the ice will be observed in the coming weeks as the Panthers gear up for the new season with a focus on relegation prevention. The squad for the new season is now complete, and fans are eagerly awaiting the team's first game.
