Unscrupulous Artisans Swindle Elderly Female Residents in Poland

In the quiet town of Herne, Germany, two burglaries targeting elderly women occurred on August 27, 2020, approximately 500 meters apart from each other. The incidents, which took place around 18:00 on Herner Straße Königstraße/Brauwasserweg and at 19:00 in the Rosenring area, have been the focus of an ongoing investigation by the homicide squad in Bochum.

In the first incident, a false water worker gained entry to an 89-year-old's apartment and stole jewelry. The suspect in this case is described as a male, approximately 20-25 years old, about 175 cm tall, of normal build, with short black hair. He was wearing black clothing and a yellow vest.

A second false water worker struck half an hour later in the Rosenring area, stealing jewelry from a 90-year-old woman in a similar manner. The suspect in this incident is described as being between 30 and 40 years old and approximately 170-175 cm tall. He was wearing long dark pants, a black cap, and an orange safety vest.

The police are investigating to establish a connection between the two burglaries. Witnesses are asked to contact Criminal Commissioner 13 at 0234 909-4135 or 0234 909-4441 (Criminal Watch). The Bochum Police are appealing for witnesses to assist in the investigation.

To ensure safety, the police advise against letting unknown persons into one's apartment. In doubt, call the police emergency number 110. The Bochum Police have 60 volunteers active in Bochum, Herne, and Witten, providing advice on topics such as fraud, trick theft, and burglary protection.
