New Double Ten National Day Logo Unveiled

The government planning committee has revealed the official logo for this year's Double Ten National Day celebrations. The design, which features two Chinese characters for 10 joined together in the colours of the national flag - red, blue, and white - incorporates a brush-stroke texture and a brush-painting motif.

Deputy Minister of the Interior, Wu Tang-an, stated that the subdued Morandi colour palette was chosen to convey "steadiness and maturity." Wu Tang-an, secretary-general of the committee, added that the brush-painting motif symbolizes creativity and evokes a flying flag, highlighting Taiwan's "diversity, freedom, and confidence."

The logo, which also includes the national flag, has received mixed reactions online. Some find it "depressing" and "ugly," while others praise it as a "great design" with an "elegant" shade of gray.

The English slogan "A Beautiful Taiwan Today, A Better Taiwan Tomorrow" is part of the logo, carried over from last year's design. However, unlike last year's design, the new emblem omits the plum blossom element introduced by Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu.

The Chinese text "Republic of China" and "Happy Birthday" are included in the logo beneath the design. The logo was created by an unnamed design team within the government planning committee, and was unveiled for the celebrations scheduled for Oct. 10.

The logo was shared on Facebook by the National Day Preparation Committee, but the exact date of its unveiling remains unspecified. After the Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang) won the most seats in the legislature, Chen Lifu took over as chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Double Ten National Day.
