Unveiling Standards for Environmental Transparency: A Step Forward in Sustaining our World

Schneider Electric, a global leader in the energy management and automation sector, has launched the Environmental Data Program to improve transparency in product environmental data reporting. The program aims to set a new industry benchmark for sustainability practices, drive action at scale, and give customers and partners clearer insight into the environmental impact of their choices.

The Environmental Data Program ensures a common language and consistent frameworks across the industry, making data comparable. Each product in the program has at least 14 environmental data points, including details on carbon footprint, recycled content, energy efficiency, and end-of-life options. This comprehensive level of environmental data disclosure covers over 110,000 products, representing 70% of Schneider Electric's 2024 turnover.

Frédéric Godemel, the EVP of Energy Management at Schneider Electric, emphasized the importance of collaboration and standardization in sustainability initiatives. He stated, "Collaboration and standardization depend on strong partnerships, and businesses have a vital role in engaging their entire value chains in sustainability and transparency initiatives."

Schneider Electric has gone beyond their legacy Green Premium label with the Environmental Data Program. The program empowers customers and partners to track progress and make informed decisions that support their decarbonization goals. By providing detailed, lifecycle-based environmental information, the program enables better decision-making across Schneider Electric's ecosystem and pushes for systemic changes needed to support a low-carbon economy.

The climate crisis has led to an intensification of regulations such as the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). The EU Green Claims Directive aims to address greenwashing and promote environmental transparency between businesses and consumers. In this context, the Environmental Data Program sets clearer expectations for how environmental performance should be measured and reported.

Companies representing two-thirds of global market capitalization now disclose critical environmental data through the Carbon Disclosure Project website. Schneider Electric's Environmental Data Program is a significant step towards addressing the lack of clear standards and poor data quality that has been holding everyone back in the sustainability reporting landscape.

Sustainability is becoming central to corporate value and long-term resilience, and is viewed as a competitive advantage. The Environmental Data Program is part of Schneider Electric's commitment to transparency, accountability, and driving change in the industry. By providing a clear, comparable, and comprehensive view of their products' environmental impact, Schneider Electric is leading the way in promoting sustainable practices across the technology sector.
