Unveils Superman Movie Title and Release Date on Instagram: James Gunn's Casual Announcement
Warner Bros. and DC Studios have officially announced a direct sequel to the 2023 Man of Steel movie, titled "Man of Tomorrow." The film, set for a 2027 release, will be directed by James Gunn, who has finished the treatment for the next story in the "Superman Saga."
The production of "Man of Tomorrow" is expected to start not too far away from the current date. David Corenswet will star as Superman in the sequel, while Nicholas Hoult will reprise his role as Lex Luthor. The title, "Man of Tomorrow," is a nod to Superman's 1930s origins and his comic book roots.
Interestingly, "Man of Tomorrow" was also used in a 1995-1999 DC comics series, "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow," and in the 1986 "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" collection of Alan Moore Superman stories. The sequel's release date remains firm at July 9, 2027, a year after "Supergirl" is set to be released on June 26, 2026.
The social media image for the sequel features Lex Luthor in his iconic green-and-purple mech armor and Superman casually leaning against his shoulder while holding a screwdriver. This image suggests a more casual and less confrontational dynamic between the two characters.
As for the plot details, they remain under wraps for now. However, the director's choice to title the film "Man of Tomorrow" indicates that the sequel is intended to symbolize Superman as a shining source of positivity, progress, hope, and future-driven optimism.
The LexCorp Battlesuit, a fixture in comics and animated renditions for four decades, will appear in live-action for the first time in the sequel. With James Gunn at the helm, fans are eager to see how he will bring this iconic story to life on the big screen.
