Poker Palace Casino in North Las Vegas to Close Permanently

The Poker Palace casino, a popular gaming destination in North Las Vegas, will shut its doors permanently on October 1, 20XX. This announcement marks the second casino closure in the North Las Vegas area, following the Silver Nugget's closure in 2023.

Opened as a casino in 1974 after operating as a bar for the growing Nellis Air Force Base crowd, the Poker Palace has been a staple in the community for over four decades. The casino offers a variety of games, including poker, bingo, blackjack, slots, and even a restaurant.

The casino's seven-table room, which has a home game feel with many regular players, has been a favourite among locals. One such regular, Joshua, praises the home game vibe of the Saturday night tournament. He shares, "The Poker Palace has a unique atmosphere that you don't find in many casinos. It's like being part of a community."

In recent years, the casino has expanded its daily poker tournament schedule to seven days a week and introduced a $20 daily tournament that grew from five days a week to seven. The tournament now offers a $30 bounty on Sunday afternoons. New TVs, felts, and poker chips were added to the casino before the summer series.

However, the good times are coming to an end. The property of the Poker Palace casino has been purchased by The Butcher Block, a local meat shop business expanding in the Las Vegas valley. As a result, an estimated 126 jobs will be lost at the casino, including the 10 dealers who will be out of work due to the closure.

Timothy Shawi, the manager of the Poker Palace casino, expressed his disappointment at the news. "This has been my home for many years, and I'm sad to see it go. But I'm grateful for the memories and the friendships I've made here."

The Poker Palace casino will operate through the beginning of October, providing one last chance for players to experience the unique atmosphere of this beloved casino. For those who have frequented the Poker Palace, these final months promise to be bittersweet.
