Update on Windows 11 25H2: Stands on the brink of its full release to the public

Microsoft has announced the upcoming release of the Windows 11 25H2 update, scheduled for non-Insider users in October. The update is currently in the Release Preview Channel, marking the last testing phase before public release.

The update process for Windows 11 25H2 can be initiated through Settings under Windows Update. Microsoft will use Enablement Packages to activate already installed but unused program components, ensuring a smooth and efficient upgrade experience for users. The switch to Windows 11 25H2 is said to be as simple as a restart.

One of the notable changes in the update is the removal of Windows PowerShell 2.0, while the WMIC tool (Windows Management Instrumentation Command-Line) will also not be included. However, settings are expected to be carried over during the upgrade.

Microsoft has introduced new selection options for the Click-to-Do function, allowing for free-form, rectangular, or "Ctrl + click" selection. This enhancement will provide users with more flexibility when interacting with their content.

The update to Windows 11 25H2 resets the clock for security updates, ensuring that it will receive corresponding patches for the next two years. The update process may take several weeks or months to be available for all Windows 11 installations via Windows Update. Microsoft may start updates with a small number of PCs to identify any issues before rolling it out to more users.

In addition, the Snipping Tool in Microsoft Insider previews can now record window videos, adding a useful feature for users who need to capture and share visual content. However, no information is currently available about new AI features in the update.

A complete ISO version for Windows 11 25H2 is expected to be available for download later this week. The update is reported to be relatively quiet and small, making it an efficient choice for users who want to upgrade their Windows 11 experience without encountering significant disruptions.

Microsoft has not yet compiled a list of other changes for Windows 11 25H2, but users can expect more details as the release date approaches. The company has promised the release of Windows 11 25H2 this year, although the exact date is currently unclear.

For those interested in trying out the update before its official release, the Windows 11 25H2 preview version is available for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. This will allow users to familiarise themselves with the changes and prepare for the update when it becomes available to all non-Insider users in October.
