Urban Climate Vault in Göttingen City
In the heart of Göttingen, a vibrant city in Germany, a new addition has been unveiled to improve the urban climate and provide a refreshing oasis for residents and visitors alike. The city administration has set up a mobile facility, known as the climate container, on Groner Street opposite Galeria Göttingen.
This innovative structure, adorned with lush plants and offering seating options, serves as a water reservoir and cools areas that could become heat islands in the summer. The climate container was developed and built by the municipal building maintenance department, and it was officially set up on July 4, 2024.
Accompanying this eco-friendly initiative is a digital guide named Verwalti, provided by the city administration. Registration for the service is easy and free, and Verwalti can answer simple questions and direct users to the right contact person. This digital assistant is another convenient way for residents to stay informed and connected with the city administration.
The city administration's messenger services, including convenient messages via Telegram and Notify, are also provided free of charge. For those interested in learning more about these services or the climate container, more information can be found online.
City building director Frithjof Look, Volker Hempfing (head of the department of building operations and city forest), and Holger Hüter (head of the street and water maintenance service) were present during the setup of the climate container. Users can send feedback or opinions about the service to a specific email address, youropinion@ourwebsite, to ensure continuous improvement.
In addition to the climate container, a city furniture (so-called parklet) has been set up in the northern city centre in the area of Ober-/Untere-Masch-Straße. Mobile green facilities are already being used in Göttingen in redevelopment areas, and the prototype offers a vertical green wall made of climbing and creepers. Mobile green elements will move from construction section to construction section in the 'Green Center Ebertal' quarter.
The employee responsible for the development and construction of the first prototype of the climate container in the Göttingen city administration is not publicly specified. Regardless, this new addition and the digital guide, Verwalti, are significant steps towards a greener and more connected Göttingen.
