Urban Core Safety Enhancement: Focus on Drug Issues in Public Transport Hubs - Increased Incidents of Drug-Related Offenses - Aid Provided
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the PRIOS unit of Düsseldorf Police embarked on a significant patrol mission at Düsseldorf Central Station, as part of the SiBu (Safety in the Railway Environment) project. This joint initiative, involving the Deutsche Bahn and the North Rhine-Westphalia Police, aimed to ensure safety in the railway environment.
The patrol, which took place during the evening hours, resulted in a series of interactions. Officers conducted a total of 62 personal checks, during which they discovered several knives on the checked individuals. Additionally, they filed 13 criminal charges, with ten of these being drug-related. Two theft/recipient charges were also filed during the patrol.
The officers were not just enforcing the law, but also offering support services to those in need. Many of the individuals they encountered were homeless and drug-dependent, with no prior contact with such services. The officers connected these individuals with various support services and referred them to appropriate agencies.
The patrol was part of the Düsseldorf Police force's ongoing commitment to maintaining safety in the area around the main station. One incident of insult was reported during the patrol, but the officers remained vigilant and continued their mission.
In one notable instance, the officers issued 29 dispersal orders, ensuring that the area remained safe and orderly. The patrol was a success, and Düsseldorf Police have announced that they will continue the SiBu project in the future.
One incident of particular concern was the discovery of drug-related offenses during the patrol. However, the officers' efforts have undoubtedly made a positive impact on the safety of the railway environment in Düsseldorf. The cooperation between the Düsseldorf Police, Deutsche Bahn, and the North Rhine-Westphalia Police is expected to continue, ensuring that the city remains a safe and secure place for all its residents and visitors.
