"Urban Development Day"

Detmold, a neighbourhood undergoing transition, is set to host an Urban Development Day on May 10, 2025, as part of the nationwide "Lively Places. Strong Communities." initiative.

The event, running from 2 pm to 8 pm, promises a varied programme that includes city tours, construction site visits, interactive activities for children, and an evening exchange with experts.

From 2 pm, families and children can participate in a scavenger hunt through the old town, with a cool surprise awaiting them at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz. The team from "Heimspiel OWL" of the Sportverband Detmold will offer games and fun at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz during the event. At 3 pm, a guided tour through the former British settlement will take place, with the meeting point at Siegfriedstraße / corner Adenauerstraße. Cornelia Müller-Hisje will lead this tour, providing background information about renovated buildings funded by the city.

A construction site tour on the Schloßplatz will focus on the sustainable development of a central urban space. Both tours will be held at 2 pm and 3:30 pm.

From 6 pm, experts will be available for discussions on urban development, renovation of old buildings, and development prospects at Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße. Mayor Frank Hilker emphasizes that urban development lives from dialogue and participation.

Mayor Frank Hilker plans to realize similar projects in the future and intends to contact the new Federal Minister of Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote such housing projects more strongly. In 2025, the organization WohnCooperativen plans to realize similar projects based on the "Detmold model," seeking more support for these projects from the new Federal Minister for Housing.

For inquiries about the Urban Development Day, Torben Gocke can be contacted via email or phone number 05231 977 401. The city portal also offers a 360-degree virtual tour on the Urban Development Day page for interactive exploration of the event's projects.

Housing cooperatives based on the "Detmold Model" are a solution for affordable, modern housing and have been successfully implemented in other North Rhine-Westphalian cities and communities. After the tour, participants can enjoy a small snack.

Urban development, according to Mayor Frank Hilker, is all about fostering dialogue and participation. Join the Urban Development Day in Detmold on May 10, 2025, and be a part of the conversation.
