Urgent Appeal Issued by United Nations Refugee Aid for Financial Contributions to Aid Struggling Residents of Afghanistan
The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is urgently calling for donations to provide life-saving aid in Afghanistan. The crisis in the country is not limited to the Taliban's takeover, but is also due to persistent drought and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over 3.5 million internally displaced persons in Afghanistan are in dire need of assistance, and about half of the country's 38 million people are currently facing hardships. The UNHCR requires 410 million US dollars for emergency aid in Afghanistan, but only 42% of the required amount has been covered by state and private funds so far.
The UN Refugee Agency's work in Afghanistan is particularly crucial, especially in the areas of girls' welfare and education. Around 630,000 people have been forced to flee within Afghanistan since the beginning of the year, and many are facing hunger due to the crisis.
Peter Ruhenstroth-Bauer, head of the UN Refugee Agency's German partner, has called for public donations to help alleviate the suffering of those affected by the crisis. In addition to the UNHCR's requirements, an additional 286 million US dollars are still needed to finance the UNHCR's life-saving mission in Afghanistan.
The UNHCR's mission in Afghanistan is focused on providing essential aid, such as food, shelter, and medical care, to those in need. The agency is also working to ensure that girls and women have access to education and protection from harm.
As the situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate, the UNHCR's call for donations is more urgent than ever. Your support can make a difference in the lives of those affected by the crisis. To donate, please visit the UNHCR's website or contact your local UN office.
