The city of Bergisch Gladbach is gearing up for its municipal elections on September 14, 2025, with a possible runoff on September 28, 2025. However, a significant shortage of election helpers poses a challenge for the election office.
Currently, there is a shortage of 250 election helpers for the upcoming elections. To address this, the election office is still actively seeking volunteers. Eligibility for election helpers includes being a German citizen as defined by Article 116, paragraph 1 of the Basic Law or a citizen of a member state of the European Union. No specific qualifications or skills are required for this role.
For those willing to step in spontaneously on election day for a missing election helper in the city area, a flat rate of 30.00 € will be offered. If there is a deployment, this fee will be waived, and the regular refreshment allowance for the function performed will be paid out instead. The refreshment allowance for all election helpers is expected to be between 50.00 and 70.00 €.
In addition, the municipalities and local government authorities can support election helpers on election day by providing additional incentives. This can include financial compensation or other forms of recognition to ensure smooth election processes and motivate helpers.
Interested parties can register with the election office by calling 02202-14 2414 or emailing [email protected]. It's important to note that residence in Bergisch Gladbach is not a prerequisite for becoming an election helper.
On election day, the election office relies on the help of over 1,000 election helpers. To prepare for the day, all election helpers will be provided with an extensive brochure and a voluntary training course. Authorities of the state and federal governments may also support the readiness with additional incentives.
The elections are emphasized as important for local engagement by Frank Bodengesser and Linda Schmitz from the election office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach. They encourage residents to consider volunteering as election helpers to contribute to the smooth running of the elections.
Election helpers must be at least 16 years old. For those interested in becoming reserve personnel, eligibility and requirements are similar, and residence in Bergisch Gladbach is not a prerequisite.
The election office stresses the importance of the upcoming elections and encourages everyone to participate in the democratic process. Whether as an election helper or a voter, your contribution is crucial for the future of Bergisch Gladbach.
