US Open Semifinals Set for Thursday, 4th September: Sabalenka vs Pegula and Osaka vs Anisimova
The US Open Tennis Championship continues to deliver thrilling action, with some highly anticipated semifinal matches set to take place in the coming days.
In the women's singles semifinals, world number three Naomi Osaka will face Amanda Anisimova on Arthur Ashe Court. This will be Osaka's first appearance in a major semifinal since her Australian Open title in 2021. Anisimova, who avenged her Wimbledon final loss to Iga Swiatek to reach the semifinals, will be looking to continue her impressive run.
The women's semifinals will take place during the night sessions in New York, adding an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings. Sabalenka, the defending champion of the US Open women's singles, will not be participating in this year's tournament, opening up the field for a new champion to emerge.
In the men's doubles semifinals, Cash/Tracy (USA) and Granollers/Zeballos (ESP/ARG) will face off. The pairing from the United States is currently unranked, while Granollers/Zeballos are ranked fifth. The other semifinals pairing features Bhambri/Venus (IND/NZL, 14) against Salisbury/Skupski (GBR, 6). Bhambri and Venus will have their work cut out for them against the higher-ranked British duo.
The men's doubles semifinals will take place on Court 8 from 6 PM, while the women's singles semifinals will start from 1 AM (French time) on Arthur Ashe Court.
In other news, the Girls' Singles Quarterfinals pairing of Efremova and Vandromme (BEL) have a ranking difference of 14 spots. Efremova will play against Vandromme in what promises to be a closely contested match.
One of the most anticipated matches of the tournament so far is the match between Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka, which is scheduled for Thursday-to-Friday night. Sabalenka defeated Pegula in last year's US Open final (7-5, 7-5), and fans will be eager to see if Pegula can avenge that loss this year.
Osaka has never lost a Grand Slam match after the quarterfinals, so Anisimova will have her work cut out for her if she wants to advance to the final. Regardless of the outcome, the US Open Tennis Championship is shaping up to be a memorable event, with plenty of exciting matchups to look forward to.
