USA Entry Fee Doubling by End of Month

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a crucial requirement for visa-free entry to the USA for tourist and business purposes, for a maximum duration of 90 days. This system is used by citizens of countries participating in the US Visa Waiver Program, including Germany.

The ESTA application can be submitted online via the CBP website or the ESTA app, available for iOS and Android. It is essential to note that the application should be submitted at least 72 hours before departure, regardless of any changes in fees.

As of September 30, the processing fee for an ESTA application rejection will increase from 4 to 10 US dollars. This change is part of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" tax and fee law, signed by US President Donald Trump in early July. However, it is important to clarify that the rejection fee does not cover the regular ESTA entry permit fee, which is also increasing from 21 to 40 US dollars.

Every traveler, including infants, needs an ESTA. Transit travelers who are only passing through the USA also require an ESTA. If a traveler's passport expires earlier, their ESTA will also expire at that time.

The ESTA is valid for two years, provided that the traveler's passport is also valid for that long. Consumer advocates still advise against using portals of unofficial service providers for ESTA applications.

It is worth mentioning that the increase in ESTA fees applies to all travelers entering the USA under the Visa Waiver Program via ESTA, affecting countries whose citizens use the ESTA system to travel to the United States. This fee increase is scheduled for September 30, 2025.

In conclusion, it is crucial for travelers to be aware of these changes in ESTA fees and the importance of applying for ESTA well in advance of their travel dates. By adhering to these guidelines, travelers can ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into the USA.
