USA reigns supreme at UCI MTB World Championships with Kate Courtney and Keegan Swenson securing wins in cross-country marathon races
2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships: Kate Courtney and Keegan Swenson Secure Gold in Elite Women's and Men's Cross-Country Marathon
The 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships are currently underway in Switzerland, and the elite races have provided some thrilling competition. In the elite women's cross-country marathon event, Kate Courtney from Team USA emerged victorious, while Keegan Swenson from Team USA dominated the men's race.
The women's race, held in the picturesque Val d'Anniviers valley, saw a fierce battle between Courtney, Anna Weinbeer from Switzerland, and Mona Mitterwallner from Austria. The race route, spanning 125km from Verbier to Grimentz, Switzerland, offered challenging terrain, including the highest peak on the route, the Pas de Lona at 2,787m.
In the early stages of the race, Courtney, Weinbeer, and Mitterwallner maintained a tight pack. However, as the race progressed, Courtney began to pull away, hitting Eison with a significant advantage of more than three minutes over Weinbeer. Despite Mitterwallner's efforts to catch Courtney, she couldn't close the gap, and Courtney crossed the finish line with a winning time of 7:10:11.1, securing her second career world title in the off-road discipline. Weinbeer finished second, 3:44 behind Courtney, while Mitterwallner took the bronze, 4:59 behind the winner.
Meanwhile, in the elite men's race, Swenson led the pack by the third checkpoint. He faced stiff competition from Samuele Porro from Italy, who secured the silver medal, finishing 25 seconds behind Swenson. Héctor Leonardo Páez León from Colombia claimed the bronze, finishing 3:42 behind Swenson.
Swenson's victory was the result of a strategic race, as he and Weinbeer from Austria swapped places multiple times in the latter stages of the race. However, in the final section, Weinbeer gained the upper hand, only for Swenson to pass him in pursuit of the silver medal.
The 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships continue to deliver exciting competition, and with more events still to come, fans are eager to see who will claim the next set of medals.
