"USMNT's Paxten Aaronson reveals his surprise at joining Colorado Rapids in MLS"
Paxten Aaronson Joins Colorado Rapids Ahead of 2026 World Cup Preparation
Paxten Aaronson, a promising American soccer player, has made a move back to Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Colorado Rapids, marking a significant shift in his career. Aaronson left Eintracht Frankfurt for a record transfer fee of around seven million euros, seeking more playing time and a chance to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
The Colorado Rapids staff extended a unique opportunity to Aaronson, offering him the No. 10 role and a chance to influence the team. This prospect, combined with the promise of continued development in MLS, was a significant selling point for the young player.
Aaronson's decision was also influenced by a phone call with Colorado's technical staff, including head coach Chris Armas. The conversation seems to have convinced him that the Rapids were the right choice for him.
The shift in Aaronson's career reflects a broader change in the USMNT ecosystem under the leadership of manager Mauricio Pochettino. Previous national team regimes often prioritized European-based players, regardless of their playing time. However, Pochettino's demonstrated willingness to call up MLS-based players has removed a potential barrier for players returning to the domestic league.
Aaronson has already made two appearances for the Colorado Rapids and is expected to be a part of their next game, after the international break, against the Houston Dynamo on Sept. 14. His return to MLS and commitment to the Colorado Rapids is a positive sign for the future of American soccer and the USMNT's preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
