Vandalism of Tesla Cybertruck in Guelph featuring a swastika symbol, potential indication of a hate-motivated incident.

In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage and concern, a Tesla Cybertruck was vandalized with a swastika at a Costco parking lot in Guelph, Ontario, on Sunday, March 2, 2025, around 11:15 a.m. This marks the first known incident of someone drawing a swastika on a Tesla vehicle in Canada.

The Cybertruck owner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, reported the incident to local police. The footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media, garnering over 130,000 views.

The swastika, historically associated with Nazi Germany, is widely recognized as a symbol of hate and antisemitism. This act of vandalism is part of a growing trend, with Tesla stores and vehicles worldwide being defaced with graffiti and damaged by vandalism in recent months.

While the act was merely vandalism with no clear intent to target a specific group, it may not meet the legal threshold for a hate crime. However, if the suspect's intent was to intimidate or promote hatred, additional charges under hate crime laws could be pursued. In Canada, the Criminal Code classifies behavior motivated by hate based on race, religion, or ethnicity as hate crimes; vandalizing a vehicle with a swastika could be prosecuted under these laws as hate propaganda or hate-motivated mischief depending on context.

Authorities are working diligently to identify the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, protests against Tesla have grown in recent days, with incidents such as the storming of a showroom in New York resulting in 9 arrests.

It's important to note that the referral link for buying a Tesla, which offers three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) when making a purchase, remains available for those interested. However, the recent spate of vandalism targeting Tesla owners serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing issue of hate crimes and the need for vigilance and unity in the face of such acts.

As the investigation continues, we hope for a swift resolution and a renewed commitment to combating hate and intolerance in our communities.
